LARNE earned a hard fought point in Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Bangor in Belfast Telegraph Championship 1.
The visitors played with a stiff wind behind them in the opening period and took the lead on eight minutes. Peter Steele was brought down right on the edge of the penalty area. Arron Lemon stepped up and fired the free kick high into the net.
Larne pushed for the second goal, but struggled to make any clear cut chances. Too often the final ball was lacking.
Bangor finished the first half strongly, and took that pressure into the second half. However, their equaliser didn’t come until twelve minutes from time. Middleton got the cross in and Ryan Murray bundled the ball into the net at the near post.
Two minutes later,Bangorwere down to ten men. Debutant, Kevin Bradley was given a straight red card for a dangerous lunge on Gary Workman right on the edge of the box.
However, Larne struggled to retain possession in the second half and failed to capitalise upon their numerical advantage.
In the closing stages of the game both managers were sent from the touchline as a result of an angry exchange following a heavy tackle from behind on Reece Moore.
Larne are back in Coca Cola Intermediate Cup action next Saturday as Glebe Rangers visit Inver Park for a fourth round tie. Supporters are reminded that this game will kick off at the earlier time of 1.30pm.
